Face lifting (Rhytidectomy)

Face lifting (Rhytidectomy)

The procedure is developed to remove or reduce the deep skin flaps from the nose to the mouth corners, the maxilla, the outline of the maxilla and the cheek-bones. It may also help in the removal of excess fat from the neck, tightenings of the muscles and the "red skin". It can be performed simultaneously with frontlift and correction of the eyebrows and eyelids. The usual candidates for this procedure are over 40 years old. There are different variants of the face lifting procedure. One of its most important aspects is preservation of the lost volume. This is achieved by sewing of very deep structures or by injection of fat that has been aspirated from another part of the patient's body. The other procedure that is usually associated with face lifting is rhinoplasty.

The procedure is carried out under local or general anaesthesia and hospitalization for 24 hours is recommended.

Smokers should stop smoking at least a week before the procedure.

The recovery period is from 10 to 14 days; with slight complications it is 2 weeks.
